Good in the Hood was featured in Darling Magazine. See how Balmain kids learned compassion through cooking, kindness and giving back to the community.

We’re thrilled to share that Good in the Hood has been featured in the latest issue of Darling Magazine! The article, “Local Kids Cooking Up Kindness,” beautifully reflects what we’re all about: fostering compassion, connection, and community through hands-on volunteering.
Recently, students from Balmain Public School joined us and our partners at Together2 for a day of giving back. They cooked, baked, and wrote heartfelt cards — simple acts that carried a big message: kindness matters. As one student put it, “I felt happy because I knew I would make someone’s day.” Their experience was captured beautifully in the Darling Magazine community section.
The story highlights what we witness every week — that giving back isn’t just about putting food on the table, but about creating belonging, empathy, and joy. One child summed it up perfectly when asked why compassion is important: “Because it makes you feel good.”
We’re so proud to see our volunteers, young and old, recognised in this way. A heartfelt thank you to Darling Magazine for shining a light on the power of kindness in our community.
